GREEN BAY, Wis. - WisconsinEagle -- Internal vacuum technology reduces a range of process challenges
The ability to safely and accurately complete the thread-up process has challenged converters since the dawn of the industry. The development of modern vacuum roll technology has effectively eliminated those challenges while improving the performance capabilities of converting processes.
MECA, a member of the Precision Roll Solutions family of roll and sleeve specialists, is an American leader in vacuum roll design and manufacturing. Our focus on worker safety and exceptional performance extends to carbon fiber sleeve options and other converting assets.

Vacuum roll safety comes into play through the technology's ability to virtually eliminate instances where two rolls come into close contact. Internal suction removes web pinching and other nip point safety issues by using reverse air pressure to hold the web in place. This is particularly beneficial in multi-role configurations, where the pinching effect from even a slight misalignment can multiply quickly.
Precise tension control improves vacuum roll accuracy
Web operators are able to create ideal settings for single-roll setups as well as coating applications by using vacuum roll technology to dial in precise tension control. Internal suction in vacuum roll configurations make it possible for the coated side to avoid contact with another surface until it is dry.
"This tension control remains in place with a vacuum roll setup even during web stoppages," explains Pete Eggen, Technical Director. "This feature is especially beneficial from a safety perspective as it eliminates the need for workers to adjust the web around the open nip points in traditional multi-roll configurations."
