The Metal Shop is now officially certified as a Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB), a designation reserved for businesses that are at least 51% owned by a veteran and are registered as a small business with SAM.gov. The SBA's certification process ensures that businesses meet specific size standards and adhere to rigorous eligibility criteria, solidifying The Metal Shop's status as a trusted partner for government contracts.
Being recognized as a Veteran Owned Small Business opens up a myriad of opportunities for The Metal Shop. Under the VA's Vets First program, certified VOSBs are able to pursue sole-source and set-aside contracts at the Department of Veterans Affairs, providing them with a competitive advantage in federal procurement processes. Additionally, certified service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs) have the opportunity to compete for federal contracts across various agencies, enhancing their ability to secure valuable business opportunities.
The benefits of this certification extend beyond government contracts. Certified VOSBs have access to a range of resources and tools provided by the SBA, including assistance in preparing for federal procurement, connecting with commercial supply chains, accessing capital, and mitigating disaster damage. Furthermore, certification opens doors to networking opportunities within the local business community and the ability to purchase surplus federal property.

About:
The Metal Shop was started in 2002 by Duane Swift. After spending 30 years in the Navy and working for another exhibit company, the opportunity to start a small business was offered. From the very humble beginnings of one drill press and MIG welder, Duane was off and running. Since that date, the company has remained small but has gone from those meager tools to machinery assets of over one million dollars. We have expanded our manufacturing space four times, and currently have 35,000 square feet of manufacturing space and approximately 10 employees.
