MANHATTAN, N.Y. & HOBBS, N.M. - WisconsinEagle -- University of the Southwest (USW)—a Hispanic-serving university in Hobbs, New Mexico—is collaborating with American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) to offer USW students an expedited pathway to attend medical school.
Under this collaboration, students from USW who qualify academically will receive preferential admission to AUA's MD program. In addition, AUA will waive students' application fees and expedite admissions timelines to those who pursue this opportunity.
Founded under its current name in 1962, USW offers baccalaureate degrees in a variety of subjects, as well as an MBA and a Masters of Science in Education program. USW is a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and listed by that group as a Hispanic-serving institution.
"USW is thrilled to begin a new partnership with AUA," said Brian Arnold, USW Director of Counseling and Career Services and psychology instructor. "As admission to medical school is extremely competitive, we are grateful to now be able to provide an opportunity for preferential admission to AUA to our qualified graduates who are seeking a career in medicine."

Students from USW will also receive a $5,000 Preferred Partner Grant, the amount of which will be added to any other scholarships or grants those students qualify for at AUA.
"USW challenges its graduates to become enterprising members of society contributing to the common good," said Gerald Wargo, AUA Vice President of Enrollment Management. "What better way to do this than to take on the privilege of a career in medicine? We are excited to welcome future USW grads to AUA."
