GREEN BAY, Wis. - WisconsinEagle -- Economical grinding process removes stock from a single side
Blanchard grinding is one of a variety of finishing processes that Titletown Manufacturing employs to deliver cost-effective, high-quality parts and projects for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Named for the Blanchard Machine Company, which developed the vertical rotary surface grinding machinery more than a century ago, Blanchard grinding imparts a recognizable cross-stitch pattern on stock.
Our team often uses techniques such as Blanchard grinding and flame cutting to bring larger pieces of metal stock into target dimensions. While not as exact as precision grinding techniques, Blanchard grinding can approach tolerances of 0.003" with a typical surface finish of 65 RMS. We can achieve higher surface finishes when requested.

We use precision grinding machines in our manufacturing assembly services for pieces that require a smoother finish or tighter tolerances. Our shop's high level of precision grinding technology can achieve superior surface finishes of about 10 RMS and tolerances approaching 0.0001".
Blanchard grinding saves time and expense
Depending on the final application, Blanchard grinding may be all that is required to bring some parts into their final size and appearance. Its primary advantage comes in its ability to quickly remove material rather than deliver the ultra-fine finishes common with smaller components.
Blanchard grinding features a rotary table that spins the workpiece beneath an abrasive wheel. The wheel is capable of removing significant amounts of material in a single pass, making it a much more time-efficient choice compared to the multiple passes required of a precision grinder for more intricate pieces.

We can use Blanchard grinding on a wide range of materials, including ferrous metals and non-ferrous alloys, even plastics and pieces that feature non-standard geometries. This makes Blanchard grinding an excellent option when our team is working on castings, forgings, and other assemblies that require uniformity across diverse surfaces.
