~ The City of Madison's Planning Division recently concluded their "Madison Madness" bracket-style community engagement survey on Monday, April 7, 2025. The survey received an overwhelming response of over a thousand submissions in the span of a few weeks.
After the survey closed, the Planning Division staff took some time to analyze and review the results before releasing a summary of their findings. This summary is now available to the public on the web pages for the Southeast Area Plan and Southwest Area Plan.
The report includes percentages of votes for various aspects of future planning in each round of the bracket. However, it is important to note that there is no clear "winner." The purpose of this survey was to gather feedback and prioritize all aspects of future growth without excluding or de-prioritizing any particular aspect based on the results.

The bracket-style survey was designed to encourage participants to consider different aspects of future planning that they may not have thought about before. It also provided a fun and easy way for people who do not typically engage in these processes to provide their input and ensure that a diverse range of voices were heard.
With almost 1,400 responses, "Madison Madness" was able to capture significantly more feedback than previous outreach efforts by the Planning Division. These results will be added to other feedback collected through different formats in the coming months.
The summary report not only includes voting percentages but also a comprehensive list of over 250 comments left by participants. This allows them to explain their voting choices or highlight other priorities they support but did not vote for. The report breaks down these comments into responses from the Southeast planning area, Southwest planning area, and the rest of the city.
