Karen I. Hirsch Pivots from Event Photographer to Graphic Artist During Pandemic
CHICAGO - WisconsinEagle -- Award-winning photographer, Karen I. Hirsch made an abrupt pivot with the arrival of the Coronavirus. While sheltered-in-place and unable to work as an event and corporate photographer, she began creating graphic art images that she posted daily on social media. The colorful designs expressed her mood, the status of Covid-19 as it peaked and curved, and the way it was affecting her neighbors.
Hirsch intended to create these graphic images for just the two weeks reported that the pandemic confinement would last. When it extended beyond that, she decided to continue her daily posts until this disease no longer prevented people from living their lives freely. March 25th marks the first anniversary of these posts.
Hirsch's images evolved over time. When holidays came around, the pictures and color schemes changed correspondingly. Her artwork became more optimistic with the coming of spring.

Viewers responded favorably to her colorful creations. After viewing one of her posts, Michael Schwartz wrote "I love the colors. I needed this to brighten my day." Laurie Shoulter Carroll commented, "Your images continue to provide visual joy." Cotton Stevenson said, " These images bring a smile to me every day." Knowing that her artwork was uplifting people's spirits, encouraged Hirsch to persevere.
During this period of being home-bound, Hirsch began a long-postponed project of making an art store website where the public could purchase her photographs and graphic art online. Additionally, she started a line of clothes and accessories featuring her designs. These are found at https://www.shop.karenihirsch.com
Hirsch will get her second vaccination shot at the end of March. President Joe Biden announced that all Americans will be eligible for vaccinations by May. Hopefully, the end of this awful Coronavirus pandemic period in our history is near. In a matter of months, Hirsch may be getting back to doing photographic assignments for music festivals, sailboat racing and corporate events, but she will come out of this period with a new outlet of creative expression and a new part of her business.
