NORCROSS, Ga. - WisconsinEagle -- The Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers will offer an online international event in November that showcases how industrial and systems engineers (ISEs) solve the complex and critical problems of the world.
The Institute's Annual Conference & Expo, Nov. 1-3, is a virtual feast of knowledge and exhibits designed to advance the ISE profession and detail how industrial and systems engineers help businesses and institutions overcome challenges. A sampling of topics and speakers is now available for preview by downloading live and pre-recorded sessions. Topics range from Blockchain-based cyber threat detection, Big Data to fight wildfires and help hunger relief, and drone-assisted delivery to Artificial Intelligence in education, Industry 4.0 and healthcare.
Keynote speakers Pooja Dewan of Otis Elevator Co., Ola Harrysson of N.C. State University, and Jim Tompkins, chairman and founder of Tompkins International, cover a wide array of ISE sectors and skills, including data analytics, 3D printing and supply chain.

As an in-demand field, ISEs are called upon to analyze processes and systems and determine how to improve quality and productivity in a variety of industries and academic settings from healthcare, ergonomics, manufacturing, research and supply chain to management.
The IISE Annual Conference gives ISEs a platform to share their research and experiences with takeaways that attendees can apply in classroom settings, the corporate office, out in the field at theme parks or on the factory floor.
Originally slated for New Orleans last spring, IISE's Annual Conference & Expo was rescheduled as a virtual event in November due to the pandemic. The pivot to all-virtual offers several benefits, according to IISE CEO and Fellow Don Greene, CAE.
"While we all look forward to the day when we can meet face to face again, virtual conferences have their unique benefits," Greene explained. "Attendees and volunteers get much of the same networking opportunities via volunteering, moderating and online chat. We'll recognize award winners, be able to enjoy an online reception, shop the virtual exhibit hall, and connect with vendors and sponsors.
"You get the always-excellent technical program you expect with significantly reduced out-of-pocket costs – lower registration fees, no hotel costs, no travel expenses, no meal costs. And the time you save by not traveling can be spent networking, listening to speakers and attending sessions."

Greene also noted that attendees can access the sessions in their recorded format on demand, on their own schedule – even after the conference.
