~ Madison, Wisconsin - The city's newest multi-use path, Autumn Ridge, will be officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 12, 2024. The public is invited to attend the event at 2 p.m. on Madison's east side, located at 4346 Commercial Avenue.

The Autumn Ridge Path is a shared-use path that will connect Milwaukee Street and Commercial Avenue (north of Highway 30). This includes a new bridge over Highway 30, providing improved safety and accessibility for non-motorized modes of transportation to cross the highway. The project aims to better connect neighborhoods on either side of the highway and expand the greater bike network in the area.

The path will also connect to existing paths through local streets, including the overpass over Stoughton Road (Highway 51) at Portland Parkway, through the Eastmorland neighborhood to the recently constructed Garver Path, and finally to the Capital City Trail and downtown Madison. Future plans include extending this path network further northeast.

Construction on the Autumn Ridge Path began in June 2024 and has been funded by a substantial federal grant of $2.5 million. This covers most of the project costs, with an additional $2 million provided by local City funding.

The project includes reconstruction of the existing path through Hiestand Park to improve and widen it to 10 feet. It then continues through an Engineering-owned greenway property east of Hiestand Park before connecting via Stein Avenue, a local low-volume street. From there, it follows a new path segment through an existing greenway adjacent to Thompson Road ramp off Highway 30.

The most significant part of this project is the new bridge overpass over Highway 30 which includes three prefabricated trusses over Highway 30 and Commercial Ave., as well as a multi-span loop on the north-side bridge approach.

The ribbon-cutting event will mark the completion of the Autumn Ridge Path and is open to the public. Media outlets planning to attend are requested to RSVP to Hannah Mohelnitzky via email.

This new multi-use path will not only improve safety and accessibility but also enhance the city's bike network, providing a convenient and eco-friendly mode of transportation for residents and visitors alike.
