MADISON, Wis. ~ Madison Police Department Offers Training to Prepare Civilians for Active Shooter Situations
The Madison Police Department is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of its citizens by offering a training program designed to save lives in an active shooter situation. The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training will take place on April 10 and there are still seats available for interested individuals.
During the training, officers will present real-life active shooter cases and discuss the strategies used by victims, as well as the outcomes of their choices. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience a hands-on simulation using realistic equipment, providing them with a better understanding of what could potentially happen in such a situation.

According to statistics, it takes an average of three minutes for police to respond to an active shooter event. However, two-thirds of these incidents are already over by the time they arrive. This highlights the importance of civilians being prepared and equipped with knowledge and skills to handle such situations.
The principles taught in this course can be applied in various settings including businesses, schools, places of worship, clinics, or any other place where people gather. The training will take place on Thursday, April 10 from 1-4 p.m. at the MPD Training Center located at 5702 Femrite Dr.
Interested individuals can register for the training by filling out a form on the city's website and emailing it to crase@cityofmadison.com. For those unable to attend this session, another public training will be offered in the fall. Don't miss this opportunity to learn how you can protect yourself and others in an active shooter situation.
