Madison-based public benefit corporation positions Exposure Plus TV as a civic distribution platform for local newsrooms, filmmakers, municipalities, educators and community organizations.

MADISON, Wis. - WisconsinEagle -- PIQSTAR INC. PBC, a Wisconsin Public Benefit Corporation, has formally announced the PIQSTAR Civic Media Experience, an infrastructure model designed to help local newsrooms, filmmakers, documentarians, municipalities, educational institutions and community organizations move important stories beyond social feeds and onto connected television, mobile and web platforms.

At the center of the model is Exposure Plus TV, PIQSTAR's proprietary OTT distribution platform available across Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV/Android TV, iOS, Android and the web.

PIQSTAR's premise is simple: producing a story and distributing a story are not the same thing. Communities may generate valuable reporting, public meetings, documentaries, cultural programming and civic information, yet still lack durable access to modern distribution.

"We are not trying to build another television network," said Ms. Lawrence, Founder, President and CEO of PIQSTAR INC. PBC. "We are building the infrastructure that makes it possible for communities to remain visible when nobody else is coming to cover them."

PIQSTAR's civic media framework is organized around three pathways: Utility Signal for governments and municipalities, Local Signal for newsrooms, filmmakers and hyperlocal storytellers, and OWN for civic, nonprofit, business and social-service organizations seeking branded distribution for their own public-facing content.

The company says its mission is not to compete with traditional local media, but to become the signal for what existing newsrooms cannot always reach. PIQSTAR's operating philosophy is rooted in prevention over reaction, or as Lawrence puts it, "Build before the emergency. See further. Build earlier."

Lawrence, a former Wisconsin lobbyist, journalist and serial entrepreneur, taught herself to code while developing the streaming platform that would become Exposure Plus TV. She says the company was built from a belief that communities need greater access to distribution, visibility and the ability to document themselves on their own terms.

PIQSTAR is now seeking relationships with municipalities, universities, journalism organizations, faith-based institutions, Chambers of Commerce, civic groups, nonprofits and independent media producers across the United States.

"A community without a signal becomes vulnerable to somebody else defining it," Lawrence said. "PIQSTAR cannot solve every problem, but we can help make it harder for communities to disappear."
