~ The Madison Fire Department has appointed Bill Sullivan as their new Fire Marshal. Sullivan began his duties on March 6, 2023 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position.

Sullivan's interest in the fire service began at a young age and led him to attend Eastern Kentucky University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology. He then went on to work as a fire protection project engineer specializing in fire suppression systems for a multi-discipline engineering firm before joining the Madison Fire Department in 2007. Sullivan also has experience as a firefighter with the Sun Prairie Fire Department.

As Fire Marshal, Sullivan will oversee the MFD Fire Prevention Division which is responsible for fire and elevator code enforcement, community education, and new construction plan review. His top goals include community risk reduction which will involve conducting an analysis to determine specific needs and outreach opportunities within the fire department's response territories. He also plans to continue educating consumers about home fire sprinklers and how to make home fire protection systems cost-effective when designing or retrofitting a home.
