~ As Juneteenth approaches, Common Council President Sabrina Madison is shining a spotlight on the next generation of leaders in the Madison community. This year's annual Juneteenth recognition will feature five exceptional young leaders and two adult leaders who have made significant contributions to their communities.
The networking event will take place on Tuesday, June 9th, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, just before the Common Council meeting at 6:30 PM. President Madison believes that this is a great opportunity to celebrate and honor these individuals for their achievements.
President Madison's goal is to ensure that Black youth in the community are recognized for their commitment to excellence. This recognition not only acknowledges their personal accomplishments but also highlights the positive impact they have on the city through their hard work and dedication.

The student recipients were nominated by various youth-focused organizations in Madison, including Rooted at Badger Rock Neighborhood Center, Bridge Lake Point Waunona Neighborhood Center, The House Inc., Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. The Common Council extends its gratitude to these organizations for nominating such outstanding youth.
President Madison has made it her mission during her time as alder to formally recognize individuals across the city who embody inclusive leadership values and actively work towards creating solutions. This Juneteenth recognition is just one way she hopes to inspire and uplift future generations of leaders in our community.
