MADISON, Wis. - WisconsinEagle -- It is 1902 and Egyptians are waking up. So too are the Ancient Egyptians, and it turns out that they have a lot to say in Dead Egyptians, the evocative debut novel from Del Blackwater.
In this first book in the new series, Blackwater transports readers into a glittering turn of the century Cairo where Albion Stanley, a recent Cambridge graduate and brilliant linguist, newly arrived in 1902, is seeing the unseen, including ghosts.
Also in Cairo is Aleister Crowley, the famed occultist. Aleister is a dangerous man, but not an unsympathetic one and never a dull one. Together they discover the world of dead Egyptians.
With exquisite descriptions drawn in large part from Blackwater's extensive travel and research in Egypt, Dead Egyptians is historically accurate down to the fabrics while also addressing the atrocities of colonialism.
A native of Wisconsin, Blackwater's travels have taken her to four continents, but Egypt has always been close to her heart. A self-educated Egyptologist, Blackwater says of her new novel, "Dead Egyptians is for everyone - Egyptophiles, sure, but also broken hearts. Also, anyone who has spent too long in the darkness. It is an essentially soothing book and I hope it becomes one of those magical books that find readers who need it."

Peter Powers, MD, author of Heal Yourself, has called it "a fascinating account of Ancient Egyptian history, spirituality and culture as seen through the more modern lens of turn of the century Egypt. Exquisitely told."
