BEDFORD, Texas, April 21, 2025 ~ A piece of history will be up for auction this May as the exact recreation of the rifle used in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy will be offered by the Rock Island Auction Company. This rifle, owned and utilized by renowned ballistics expert Monty C. Lutz, played a crucial role in his testimony for the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) and even made an appearance in the 1986 movie "On Trial: Lee Harvey Oswald," where Lutz portrayed himself.

The rifle is an identical configuration to the infamous "Mannlicher-Carcano" rifle that was used by Lee Harvey Oswald to assassinate President Kennedy. Lutz's rifle was ordered from the same retailer as Oswald's and was mounted with an identical scope, making it a perfect replica of the original weapon. This level of duplication was essential during the HSCA investigation in 1978, where Lutz conducted tests on the rifle at various distances. The exact replication of the assassination weapon was a crucial component in the investigation as the nation sought answers in the aftermath of this tragic event.

The auction listing provides more information about this historic piece, including its use during high-profile cases such as the assassinations of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., as well as its role in bringing down the Hells Angels in Milwaukee by restoring serial numbers.

The HSCA famously concluded that Kennedy's assassination was likely part of a conspiracy, contradicting the Warren Report's conclusion that it was carried out by a lone gunman. However, Lutz stood by the findings of the Warren Report, which is also supported by recently declassified JFK files.

In addition to this significant piece of history, bidders will also have access to a trove of related documents such as letters from Lutz, paperwork documenting its use on screen, artifacts from other high-profile assassinations, personal notes, original photographs, and nine extensive bound book evidence reports related to Lutz's cases.

The three-day auction, which will take place in Bedford, Texas, will feature nearly 2,000 items, including a stunning antique Colt revolver presented by President Franklin Pierce, the first M1 Garand rifle ever produced, and a Winchester rifle used on screen by Jimmy Stewart that shaped fine arms collecting in America. There will also be numerous finely embellished selections from various countries, eras, and artisans.

For those interested in this upcoming Premier Auction, more information can be found on the Rock Island Auction Company's website at www.rockislandauction.com. Don't miss your chance to own a piece of history and potentially solve one of the nation's most infamous mysteries.
