Mayor Rhodes ~ Madison's Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway is leading by example this holiday season, encouraging residents to support local businesses and artists. She recently attended The Crafty Fair at the Goodman Community Center, where she chatted with Bernie from bernie & zuzu and did some holiday shopping.
As a strong advocate for the local economy, Mayor Rhodes-Conway believes that buying from Madison's artists, crafters, and small businesses not only supports the community but also adds to its vibrancy. "I like to buy from local vendors and stores when looking for presents for friends and family," she shared. "When you shop locally, more of your dollar stays right here in the community and supports your neighbors."

The Crafty Fair was just one of many options for unique gifts in Madison. The Mayor highlighted other areas such as Monroe Street, downtown, and Park Street that are home to small businesses with one-of-a-kind items not found in big box stores.
During her visit to The Crafty Fair, Mayor Rhodes-Conway purchased a handcrafted candle, two dish towels, and a Cats of Madison calendar. She also pointed out the convenience of shopping locally with free same-day delivery.
According to Meghan Stern, Dane Buy Local Development Specialist, eight out of ten local businesses rely on a boost in holiday sales. She emphasized the impact that buying even just a few locally made products can have on the entire community throughout the year.
As Mayor Rhodes-Conway continues to lead by example, she hopes that her support for local vendors will inspire others to do the same this gift-giving season. By choosing to buy locally, residents can make a positive impact on their community while finding unique gifts for their loved ones.
