~ Madison, Wisconsin - The city's newest multi-use path, Autumn Ridge, will be officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 16, 2025 at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend the event, which will take place on Madison's east side at 4346 Commercial Avenue.
The Autumn Ridge Path is a shared-use path that connects Milwaukee Street and Commercial Avenue, north of Highway 30. It includes a new bridge over the highway, providing a safer and more accessible route for non-motorized transportation between neighborhoods on either side. This expansion of the bike network in the area also connects to existing paths such as the overpass over Stoughton Road (Highway 51) at Portland Parkway, through Eastmorland neighborhood to Garver Path, and finally to the Capital City Trail and Downtown Madison.
The long-term plans for this path network include further extensions to the northeast. Construction on the project began in early June of 2024 and was funded by a substantial federal grant of $2.5 million. The remaining costs were covered by local City funding of $2 million.

The Autumn Ridge Path project includes reconstruction of the existing path through Hiestand Park, widening it to 10 feet for improved safety and accessibility. It then continues through an Engineering-owned greenway property east of Hiestand Park before connecting via Stein Avenue, a local low-volume street. From there, it follows a new path segment through an existing greenway adjacent to Thompson Road ramp off Highway 30.
The path then climbs in elevation alongside the Thompson Road ramp until it reaches the new bridge overpass over Highway 30. On the north side of the highway, it loops down onto Ziegler Road, another local low-volume street that connects to existing paths within Sycamore Park.
The most significant part of this project is the new bridge overpass over Highway 30, which includes three prefabricated trusses over the highway and Commercial Avenue, as well as a multi-span loop on the north-side bridge approach. The entire project is substantially complete and open for public use, with some minor finishing items to be completed by the contractor this spring.
The ribbon-cutting event will mark the official opening of the Autumn Ridge Path and is open to the public. Media outlets planning to attend are requested to RSVP to Hannah Mohelnitzky via email. More information about the project can be found on the Autumn Ridge Path Project Page and at Street Meets: Autumn Ridge Path.
