MADISON, WI ~ Madison Public Library's Bubbler Room is welcoming a new Artist-in-Residence, Martina Patterson, also known as Mars. Through July 2023, Mars will be hosting a variety of events such as open studio hours and workshops. The theme of her residency is EcoRest Art & Reflection, which explores the intersectionality of art, plants, soil and community.
Carlee Latimer, Program Assistant for the Bubbler Room at Central Library said: "Mars has such a calming and welcoming presence that allows for participants to feel comfortable enough to think more deeply about their identity as related to their surroundings - past, present, and future. The large-scale visuals they're creating with the community are altering the energy of our Bubbler Room space at Central Library in real time."
The Madison community is invited to explore ideas and stories through nature by capturing images and using polaroids that they feel are a reflection of themselves or a representation of their life story. Open Studio Sessions are available on June 2nd (citywide Artists' Night), June 3rd (citywide Artists' Night), June 30th and July 8th from 1-3PM; no registration required. Additionally, two workshops will be held on May 27th from 1-3PM titled Record Your Story and Healing Hikes & Photo Reflection Harvest on July 1st and 22nd from 1-3PM; registration required for both workshops. All ages are welcome but youth must be accompanied by an adult.

This residency is made possible with funding through the Evjue Foundation and Madison Public Library Foundation as part of the Our Town Everywhere project which encourages exploration of the idea of community portrait through various mediums.
Through this residency, Mars hopes to grow, inspire and educate people about Nature while reflecting on the human experience. With her calming presence she hopes to create an environment where people can think deeply about their identity in relation to their surroundings - past, present and future - while creating large scale visuals with the community that alter the energy in the Bubbler Room at Central Library in real time.
