~ On Sunday, September 10th, the Ironman Triathlon will be taking place in and around downtown Madison. The race consists of swimming in Lake Monona, bicycling in Dane County, and running in the downtown/campus area. It will begin at 6:45 a.m. and last until approximately midnight.

The swim route will not have any street closures, however the bicycle route will have closures from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., including the right lane of northbound John Nolen Drive from E Lakeside St to Monona Terrace, East Lakeside Street east of John Nolen Drive, Olin-Turville Court, East Rusk Avenue from Alliant Energy Center driveway to Rimrock Road., Rimrock Road ramps to/from Beltline Highway and Badger Road west of Rimrock Road. The run route closures will last from 11:00 a.m. until midnight and can be seen on the Ironman Wisconsin website (https://www.ironman.com/im-wisconsin-course).

Police will maintain local access across the route only when possible during gaps in the runners/bicyclists and thru-traffic driving across the route will not be permitted during this time period. Metro Transit detours can be found on their website (https://www.cityofmadison.com/metro/detours).
