~ Starting on July 14, 2025, contractors in Madison will have to find alternative options for processing their brush and wood chips as the Street and Urban Forestry Division's brush processing center on 121 E. Olin Avenue will no longer be accepting these materials.
According to officials, this change is necessary due to a construction project at the Olin Avenue site. The project aims to make improvements for a new drop-off site space, but it will also limit the brush storage capacity during its duration. The construction project is expected to last until December 2025.
Contractors, including tree service professionals and landscapers, are advised to utilize other facilities such as the Dane County Landfill or private brush processing options. It is currently unknown if the brush processing services for contractors will resume once the project is completed. Factors such as the final footprint of the site, future budget, and other concerns will need to be considered before making a decision.

However, residents can still bring their brush to the drop-off sites without any changes. The drop-off site rules remain unchanged and residents can continue using the Streets Division's services for their brush disposal needs.
The only change in services pertains to commercial-scale brush processing provided to contractors. This includes private tree service professionals and landscapers who will now have to seek alternative options for processing their materials.
Despite these changes, residents can rest assured that their regular curbside brush collection services will not be affected. The pickup schedule and collection rules will remain the same.
For more information about the construction project at Olin Avenue, interested parties can visit the Engineering Division's project page. Additional information about Streets Division's services can also be found on their website.
