~ Madison, Wisconsin - As the winter season continues to bring snow and cold temperatures, many may think that biking is no longer an option. However, the local bicycle advocacy group Madison Bikes is determined to prove otherwise. On Friday, February 14th, they will be hosting a Winter Bike Day to showcase that biking can be a year-round activity in Madison.

The mission of Madison Bikes is to create a city where anyone can comfortably and conveniently ride a bicycle to any destination, regardless of the weather. Christo Alexander, the vice president of Madison Bikes, emphasizes this goal by stating, "Madison Bikes wants to show that biking for transportation should not be limited to fair weather days. We want Madisonians to know that with a little preparation, biking year-round can be done by anyone. We're going to be out on Winter Bike Day to encourage and celebrate that and we'd love to see you there!"

In partnership with the City of Madison, Madison Bikes has planned two events for Winter Bike Day. From 7-9 a.m., bicyclists can stop by the Capital City Path near the Monona Terrace bike elevator for free coffee from Café Domestique and doughnuts from Madison Bikes. Staff from Greater Madison MPO will also be present to discuss RoundTrip, a program designed to connect commuters with alternative transportation options.

Later in the day, bikers can head over to Working Draft Beer on E. Wilson St for happy hour. Those who show their Bike Benefits sticker and wear their helmet will receive 10% off their purchase at this local brewery. In addition to their selection of brews, Working Draft also offers non-alcoholic options.

Winter biking not only provides exercise but also allows individuals to experience the beauty of Madison from a different perspective. For those interested in starting their daily commute on two wheels, helpful tips and resources can be found on the City's Bike Madison webpage.

Madison Bikes is determined to break the misconception that biking is only a summer activity. With their Winter Bike Day event and ongoing efforts, they hope to encourage more people to embrace biking as a year-round mode of transportation in Madison.
