As the upcoming school year quickly approaches, the City of Madison Traffic Engineering Division is hiring a number of qualified candidates to work part-time as a School Crossing Guard. Though vacancies exist in several areas, the city sees the greatest need for applicants on the west side of Madison.
The position is an integral part of safe walking and biking to school. Crossing Guards help children safely cross the street and serve as a visual reminder for drivers to slow down and follow traffic laws.
"This is meaningful work and a wonderful way to contribute and give back to your community," said Alex Stewart, Crossing Guard Supervisor.

The time commitment for Crossing Guards is typically 10-15 hours per week, dependent on the assigned location. Qualified candidates will have a positive presence and a desire to help the community, and its children, safely walk and bike to school.
The first round of interviews will be mid-August with training anticipated late August, approximately one week before school starts. Hiring will occur continuously until all of the positions are filled or until the posting officially closes. Do not delay; apply now to be a part of this dedicated group as the City prepares for the fall return to school.
